Durand Area Schools participates in Schools of Choice. Under the schools-of-choice program, parents can send their children to a public school outside of their home district, provided there is room in the choice district and the district approves the transfer. There is no tuition to pay. All schools in Shiawassee County endorse schools of choice. State funds are transferred to the district for students who transfer from anywhere in the county.

The Durand Area Schools School of Choice registration window is open until January 25, 2013.
