What is Project Find Michigan?

"Child Find" is a federal component of the individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

"Project Find"is Michigan's term for "Child Find".  The project is funded by the Michigan Department of Education, Office of Special Education and Early Intervention Services.  Its purpose is to locate, identify and refer those individuals who may be eligible to receive special education services in Michigan.

"Project Find" searches for children and youth ages 3 to 26 years of age who have disabilities in areas such as physical, social-emotional, speech & language, or cognitive impairments that may affect his or her  educational performance.  These conditions may make the child or youth eligible for special education services provided by the public school system in Michigan.  The services are governed by special education rules.

If you suspect your child may have a disability, please contact your child's Building Principal or Mrs. Lorraine Thayer, Durand Area Schools Special Education Coordinator at (989) 288-2805 or email .
