SUBSTITUTE SCHOOL BUS DRIVER
 
Substitute bus drivers work on an as-needed basis. Currently our substitute drivers work about as many hours as our regular drivers do.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Applicant must be minimum 21 years old with at least 5 years driving experience.
  • Ability to secure and maintain required licenses and certifications through the State of Michigan (CDL with B, P, and S endorsements). All fees and training will be paid by the District for qualified candidates, subject to continued successful employment.
  • Must pass a physical examination including random drug testing, demonstrating mental/physical ability and stamina for meeting the requirements of the position.
  • Ability to maintain order and safety among students on the bus, communicating clearly and in a positive manner.
  • Criminal background check including fingerprinting required.
Rate of Pay:   $15.00/hour for regular runs. $12.15/hour extra trip driver (includes layover time). Pay rate may be adjusted based upon experience as a school bus driver.

SCHOOL BUS DRIVER

All fees and training paid for by the District
 
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Applicant must be minimum 21 years old with at least 5 years driving experience.
  • Ability to secure and maintain required licenses and certifications through the State of Michigan (CDL with B, P, and S endorsements). All fees and training ill be paid by the District for qualified candidates, subject to continued successful employment.
  • Must pass a physical examination including random drug testing, demonstrating mental/physical ability and stamina for meeting the requirements of the position.
  • Ability to maintain order and safety among students on the bus, communicating clearly and in a positive manner.

Rate of Pay: Per DESPA Contract. $15.78/hour to start. $16.27/hour after successful completion of 60-day
probationary period. Pay rate may be adjusted based upon experience as a school bus driver.

Bonuses: 1) Subject to criminal background check including fingerprinting, the District will pay you a $500 signing
bonus as a fully qualified bus driver upon hire or upon completion of training, licensure and certification. 2) A
$1,000 bonus will be paid at the end of the school year if new bus driver remains employed for the entire school
year. This bonus may be prorated based upon hire date.

Hours: Approximately 4-5 hours/day. Hours and route to be determined.

  • Provide assistance when needed to student for daily tasks, including scribing, assisting student on and off Bus and navigating between classes
  • Any other duties as assigned by building principal (including outside student pick up/drop off supervision before and after school)
Qualifications:
  • Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours); or obtain an associate's degree (or higher); or successful completion of the MTTC Basic Skills or WorkKeys (prior to 7/1/2016) or ETS Parapro Assessment (see attached information)
