Help Desk Support Technician

Job Title:                Help Desk Support Technician

Hours:                     Full Time

Reports To:             Systems Administrator

Hourly Range:         $13 - $16 (based upon experience and certifications)

Closing Date:          Until filled (screening will be ongoing as applications are received)

 

Summary: Under the direction of the Systems Administrator, the Help Desk Support Technician is responsible for basic computer and application support.  The candidate will install, maintain, and repair computers, peripherals, and printers.  This position will inspect, test, diagnose and repair/replace computer hardware.  The technician will also provide application support.  Duties may also include supporting multimedia equipment including data projectors.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Focus on maintaining quality customer service to end users which includes responding to work requests in a kind, courteous and professional manner
  • Assist with basic operating system and application support for end users on common software platforms that are used in the district (i.e.  Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, etc.)
  • Respond quickly to technical work requests ensuring that end user issues are addressed in an efficient manner
  • Assist with support of instructional technology and multimedia equipment including interactive whiteboards, document cameras, learner response systems and data projectors
  • Assist with installation and configuration workstation hardware and software in accordance with manufacturer specifications and the school district’s standard of quality
  • Assist with diagnosing, troubleshooting, resolving and repairing workstation hardware and software problems and issues
  • Maintain inventory and communicate with immediate supervisor of replacement and upgrade needs in various departments/programs for workstation and related support equipment
  • Document all work within the Helpdesk work order system
  • Implement and perform preventive maintenance procedures in accordance with manufacturer specifications
  • Other duties as assigned 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies Required:

  • IT industry certification (i.e. CompTIA A+, Network+) or IT related degree preferred but not required
  • One year of experience in IT support or related field preferred but not required
  • Up-to-date knowledge in the following areas:
    • Computer Hardware
    • Operating Systems (Windows, Windows Server, Macintosh, iOS and Chrome)
    • Network Printers
    • Computer Peripherals (i.e. scanners, digital cameras, etc.)
    • Basic networking technologies and concepts
    • Common applications (i.e. Microsoft Office, Google Docs, common Internet browsers)
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and act as a technology mentor to staff as needed
  • Patience when working with end users
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Tasks may involve moderate physical work including lifting/carrying equipment
  • Must be able to learn skills quickly
